20 gallon aquariums are the largest of the smaller tanks, before we start getting into medium sized setups. This makes them especially popular for aquarists that want something a little more spacious without being too hard to maintain. So let’s take a look at the top 20 gallon fish tank options for your next setup, shall we?

Allcolor Ultra Clear Rimless Aquarium

Rimless aquariums are perfect for hobbyists looking to upgrade the viewing capacity of their system! These aquariums use an ultra-low iron glass that has 91-95% light transmittance (versus 80-83% for standard glass tanks). You’ll often see it marketed as Starfire Glass since it’s close to invisible with the right lighting!

To further enhance the effect the Allcolor Rimless uses seams joined with adhesives alone; no dark rims to detract from the appearance of a floating box of water! Coupled with some bright LED lights and proper aquascaping, you can have an aquarium that’s on par with anything you’d see from the ADA (Aqua Design Amano) company!

The only downsides are the price and slightly more fragile character of starfire glass. But if you want the very best for your system there is no substitute!

Hagen Fluval Flex Aquarium 15 Gal

Hagen’s Fluval Flex lineup ranges from 9 to 32.5 gallons but their 15g model is a favorite of mine since its size is just right for the majority of aquarists! The main draw here is the curved bow front design, which makes for a pleasing interior design element. Fluval Flex tanks also have a proprietary curved wooden stand that matches it in color (white or black).

These setups also have LED bulbs that are bright enough to grow low to medium light plants like Guppy Grass and Java Fern. Integrated into the rear of the tank is a filter, with the pump and media included for quick setup! With 132 gallons per hour of flow, I did find that the pump was occasionally too strong for slow moving fish like Bettas. But for stronger swimmers, such as Tiger Barbs and Neon Tetras, the current generated is perfect for good exercise!

SeaClear Acrylic Aquarium Combo Set

SeaClear’s Acrylic Aquarium combo set includes not only the tank but also a 15 inch lighting strip to fully illuminate the rectangular setup. While we don’t get a filter or other accessories with this model, the main draw here is the advantages offered by an acrylic system.

Acrylic aquariums are the second most popular option after glass and are a great choice if the weight of glass is off putting. Acrylic tanks weigh only half as much as glass tanks do and they are robust enough to withstand impacts that would shatter a glass panel. They also hold heat much better.

Like most setups the Tetra ColorFusion uses the 20 gallon high style, sacrificing length for vertical height. However it also uses a custom bow front design for a curved presentation of your fish!
